Joseph Swan bought his first vineyard in the Russian River Valley in 1967, and his influence in Sonoma County and beyond cannot be underestimated; indeed, the clone of Pinot Noir that he bred (Swan Clone 97) was at one time the most widely planted in California. Mr. Swan passed away in 1989, but his son-in-law, Rod Berglund, has quietly and steadily maintained the superior quality of the wines. Every vintage of Cuvée de Trois is blended from different sites in the valley, with the goal of bottling the most regionally specific wine the vintage has to offer. The 2016 is typically subtle and elegant, with just a touch of new oak. Drink now or cellar 8-12yrs.
